Where can I find a laid back but well maintained beach town in the US? Me and my girlfriend are looking to go on a vacation next month somewhere nice with a laid back attitude. In the summer we vacation at Sylvan Beach, NY which has a well maintained beach and a very small amusement park. However, because it is in NY it obviously is not a good destination for December as the beach will likely be under 2 feet of snow by then. Any Ideas? We would prefer to be able to rent a small cottage with some privacy from neighbors. Our budget is about $1500 and we would like that to cover a weeks stay. Preferably the cost of lodging will be near $1000 to leave a travel and dining budget. Thanks for the response U.S.A. gal but we are looking for somewhere warm in December :)

I was just reading answers to another question and one YA comment really struck a chord with me - "expecting people to travel great distances and take vacation time to do so, to go to destination weddings, weddings on holiday weekends, weddings that are done so cheaply ( i loved the recent " do i have to provide chairs?" questions) that they really really should not not not be done at all, well, these are all new things in this world where anything goes. except, the truth is, it doesnt." I don't mean to target this person at all> i was just hurt by this comment. Both me and my fiance, my fiances parents and my parents live in different cities, so we are having the wedding in his hometown where some of my relatives also happen to live. Most of my side will have to travel around 4-5 hours to get to the wedding.(all in all, about half the guests will need to travel). This is also just after New Years - so my question is, is this really unreasonable of us to have a wedding where people need to travel AND is planned over a holiday? We are having the wedding at this time and this place because with my fiance being in the army it's the only time we can "fit in" the wedding for the last 2 years. Going by the comment above this is a MASSIVE no-no. Do all people think like this?? Is this what all our guests are thinking??

My girl friend and i have been wanting to go on a vacation and travel around a bit so I thought to myself, what could be better than a cruise? You get to visit several destinations and get catered to 24/7 besides she's never been. I never realized that there was such a strict age requirement considering a lot of them would allow you to drink at the age of 18 but i guess they just don't want a bunch of drunk college kids trashing the place. Here's the quick and dirty: 20-something female From West Virginia, so I'm pretty used to cold weather. Have traveled a lot within the U.S. Have traveled to London (and loved every second!) I have about a $500 budget for a 4-day trip Nov. 21-24 (not including airfare...it's a non-issue). Have a passport just sitting around collecting dust. I know some elementary French and could probably pick up a little Spanish before I leave if necessary. I can't for the life of me choose a destination! I'm interested in history, architecture, natural beauty...and probably some other things I can't think of at the moment. Warm weather would be nice, but is not a necessity. Had been thinking of Quito, Ecuador, or somewhere in the U.K. or Europe, but again, can't decide! Thanks in advance for your help!

My younger brothers, ages 13 and 9, do not like to travel. They would rather stay at home and play video games or football. How can I convince them to want to travel? I know they will enjoy almost any destination we could potentially travel to, for in the past, they have enjoyed vacations once we got there (the flight or drive to a destination makes them hostile). However, they absolutely refuse to go whenever the subject comes up. My parents and I are not trying to drag them to Europe where they would have to take tours of castles or museums. The trip suggestions we have include Disney World, cruises, and New York City, however, they say all of them sound "boring". My parents refuse to leave them at home with a babysitter for a week. So basically my question is, how can I convince young boys to want to travel?
